JoAnn Falletta conducts the Belfast Philharmonic Choir in the monumental Requiem by Johannes Brahms. Inspired by the death of his mother in 1865, and setting Lutheran rather than Latin texts, it took three years to complete.
Brahms wrote: “As for the title, I must admit I should like to leave out the word ‘German’ and refer instead to ‘Humanity’”. This gets to the heart of the work – Brahms’ aim to write a requiem to comfort the living.
