7pm Pre–Concert talk with JoAnn Falletta (free of charge)
The climax of the Season celebrating three Russian masterpieces, including Rimsky–Korsakov’s colourful depiction of a Russian festival and Tchaikovsky’s exuberant Violin Concerto. In part two, Stravinsky’s ballet score tells the story of a puppet
brought to life, described by the composer as ‘the immortal and unhappy
hero of every fairground in all countries’.
The concert was to have featured Finnish violinist Pekka Kuusisto. Pekka has, unfortunately had
to pull out at very short notice from the concert due to a hand injury. While
it is preventing him from performing for the immediate future, Pekka tells us
that he hopes to make a full recovery within the next few weeks.
Tchaikovsky’s
Violin Concerto will now be performed by the Austrian violinist Benjamin
Schmid.
