NI Opera Shorts

Thursday 28 Jun 2012 to Saturday 30 Jun 2012

The MAC, Belfast

7.45pm

£9.50–£22

NI Opera has created unique partnerships between five of Northern Ireland’s finest composers and five of the UK and Ireland’s leading playwrights in what has been billed as ‘Contemporary opera at its most gripping.’

The Ulster Orchestra and NI Opera’s young singers accompany each piece, which are between 10 to 20 minutes long, in ‘five snapshots of lives on the edge…’

NI Opera, in association with the MAC presents:

  • Our Day composed by Conor Mitchell and written by international playwright Mark Ravenhill
  • The girl who knew she could fly, a partnership between award–winning playwright Frank McGuinness and Christopher Norby
  • Jackie’s Taxi by Ed Bennett and Stacey Gregg
  • Driven by Deidre McKay and Richard Dormer
  • May contain flash photography composed by the Ulster Orchestra’s former Associate Composer, Brian Irvine and written by playwright Owen McCafferty.

Directed by Rachel O’Riordan (Hurricane / Ransom Productions), NI Opera Shorts is conducted by Fergus Shiel with design by Gary McCann.
