Warm up those cold January nights with one of the sunniest of all symphonies - Mendelssohn’s personal impressions of the art, nature and people of Italy. The sublime slow movement from Mozart’s Piano Concerto No.21 was used in Ingmar Bergman’s 1967 film, Elvira Madigan, to depict a lazy boat ride on a placid Swedish lake. The Concerto is performed tonight by that most perfect of Mozart interpreters, Howard Shelley.
