ULSTER ORCHESTRA STUDENT WORK EXPERIENCE POLICY

GCSE & A Level Student Work Experience

Every season the Ulster Orchestra receives many requests for work experience placements for secondary level education students. Space is very limited within the administration offices, so whilst it is not practical for students to shadow administrative staff, they are welcome to shadow an Ulster Orchestra rehearsal and to find out about the ‘behind the scenes’ running of the Orchestra. Places will be dealt with on a first-come-first-served basis and requests must be made through the Careers Department of the student’s school. A limited number of placements will be available during our concert season, and each placement will normally last 2 - 3 days. Students will be expected to liaise with the Education Officer prior to the work placements in order to arrange times and any other requirements. If you are interested in a work experience placement with the Ulster Orchestra please contact the Education Department on education@ulsterorchestra.com or tel: 028 9026 0478.

Third-Level Student Work Placements

Every year the Ulster Orchestra can accommodate 2 third level music students on a long term work placement. The placement will normally last 3 months and the students will complete about 18 days overall with the Orchestra. Each student will be given a specific project to work on – this could be an education or marketing and development related project. The student will be expected to attend meetings, organise the project under supervision, complete all tasks related to the project and liaise with the appropriate line manager throughout their time with the Orchestra. They will be very much part of the administration team and will be expected to be involved in all other tasks and projects where necessary. All requests for Third-Level placements must come through the Careers Department of the relevant Third-Level music department and places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served-basis, where the relevant selection criteria are met. If you are interested in a work placement with the Ulster Orchestra please contact the Education Department on education@ulsterorchestra.com or tel: 028 9026 0478.
